Mr. Scott represents doctors and lawyers, as well as other professionals and healthcare entities, who have been accused of malpractice. Mr. Scott is a member of the firm’s Healthcare Practice Group, and was recently selected to present a lecture on the topic of preventing hospital liability to over a hundred healthcare-liability attorneys from all over the state.
Before joining the firm, Mr. Scott served as an Assistant Attorney General in the Tennessee Attorney General’s office. In that role, Mr. Scott served as lead counsel in several federal- and state-court cases involving complex constitutional issues. In addition, he served as lead counsel in over three dozen successful appeals, assisted in briefing a constitutional challenge to the healthcare-liability statute in a case pending before the Tennessee Supreme Court, and served as a member of the strategy team for a case pending before the United States Supreme Court.
After the Attorney General’s office, Mr. Scott served as the hospital attorney for Middle Tennessee Mental Health Institute, which is the largest state mental-health hospital in Tennessee. While there, Mr. Scott directed the day-to-day legal services for the hospital, conducted weekly commitment hearings, and advised the hospital administration about various topics including healthcare liability, HIPAA, employment law.
