John J. Britton

John J. Britton is a shareholder in the firm’s Knoxville office. His practice focuses on litigation in state and federal courts in Tennessee, as well as state and local boards and administrative agencies. His primary focus areas include: eminent domain and condemnation, real estate and real estate related litigation, firearms law, contract drafting, and business litigation.

In the area of Eminent Domain and Condemnation, Mr. Britton’s practice includes:

  • Representing condemning authorities (governments)
  • Representing landowners whose property is being acquired
  • Inverse condemnation (lawsuits against governments for taking property without just compensation)
  • Advising government entities about right-of-way acquisition
  • Mr. Britton has been listed in “Best Lawyers in America” under Eminent Domain and Condemnation since 2007

In the area of real estate and related litigation, Mr. Britton focuses on:

  • Flooding lawsuits
  • Boundary disputes
  • Breach of sales contract (residential and commercial)
  • Breach of lease (residential and commercial)

In the area of firearms law, Mr. Britton is able to:

  • Advise employers about firearms issues related to the workplace
