Meet the Barrister – Whitney Henry Kimerling

A periodic Q & A session with a Lewis Thomason (LT) lawyer

Lewis Thomason: When did you decide to become a lawyer?
Whitney Henry Kimerling: I have always known that I wanted to be a lawyer. I am pretty sure that stretches back to career day in kindergarten when everyone else wanted to have more thrilling careers like astronaut and firefighter. Being a lawyer runs in my family – my grandfather, great uncle, father, uncle, cousins – so I never even thought of doing anything else.

Lewis Thomason: What is one thing on your bucket list and why?
Whitney Henry Kimerling: Almost everything on my bucket list is travel related. I would love to travel to Nairobi to stay at Giraffe Manor. It is a boutique hotel with its own herd of resident Rothschild giraffes that roam the property. I have heard that they frequently come up to the restaurant at the manor and stick their heads in the open windows for snacks from diners, particularly at breakfast. The photographs look amazing! Google it and I bet you will have a new bucket list item, too.

Lewis Thomason: What is your favorite drink and why?
Whitney Henry Kimerling: Most people who know me know that I love champagne, no matter the occasion.

Lewis Thomason: What motivates you?
Whitney Henry Kimerling: I am motivated to set a strong example for my sons by working hard in my profession and by making a difference in my community through non-profit involvement and service to others.

Lewis Thomason: What is something that is popular now that annoys you?
Whitney Henry Kimerling: I am annoyed by social media and the oversharing nature it has created in our society. I have not been on Facebook for a few years now, and I do not miss it one bit.

Lewis Thomason: What is one of the most memorable moments in your life so far?

Whitney Henry Kimerling: The most memorable moment in my life so far spans a few months. It started with the day we adopted our son, Henry, in April 2016, only to find out three months later that he would quickly become a big brother to Max, who was born the day after Henry’s first birthday. Two boys – born 366 days apart – has been quite memorable so far!

Lewis Thomason: What book is on your bedside table (or on your e-reader)?
Whitney Henry Kimerling: Right now, my bedside table has a stack of several issues of Southern Living, which, like my mother, I keep telling myself I am going to find time to read.

Lewis Thomason: Where is the best place you have ever visited?
Whitney Henry Kimerling: I love Switzerland. The entire country is beyond beautiful. I would go back to my favorite cities – Lucerne, Zermatt, and St. Moritz – in an instant.
