Charles W. Cagle Selected as Member of Tennessee Baptist Convention Sexual Abuse Task Force

Charles W. (Chuck) Cagle, shareholder and chair of Education Law and Government Relations Practice Group in Lewis Thomason’s Nashville office, has been appointed a member of the Tennessee Baptist Convention (TBC) Sexual Abuse Task Force.

The TBC Sexual Abuse Task Force’s purpose is to evaluate:

  • The process of how the Tennessee Baptist Convention (TBC) responds to allegations of sexual abuse occurring in churches and TBC entities and reported to the TBC;
  • The process of how Tennessee Baptist Mission Board (TBMB) seeks to protect those it serves from sexual abuse and responds to allegations growing out of TBMB ministries and events; and
  • The resources and assistance provided by TBC and TBMB to cooperating churches to help educate church leaders on best practices to protect their congregants from the evil of sexual abuse.

Cagle was appointed due to his experience handling similar claims within school systems and in ethics and public policy matters.  At Lewis Thomason, Cagle oversees the firm’s representation of over 70 public boards of education, two private schools, two private universities, and a private medical school in a variety of legal matters including employment issues related to both licensed and classified employees, employee and student discipline, employee and student rights, special education and disability accommodation, constitutional rights issues, sexual harassment and bullying issues, civil rights, desegregation, school system consolidation, tort liability, school system business practices, school funding, taxation, and school construction.

Among his numerous professional honors, Cagle was a recipient of the Kip Reel Award – the highest award bestowed for educational leadership by the Tennessee Organization of School Superintendents.
