Cheryl Rumage Estes, Shareholder in Lewis Thomason’s Memphis office, has been named a Fellow of the Tennessee Bar Foundation. Fellows are chosen based on their devoted and distinguished service to the legal profession and the administration of justice and their adherence to the highest standards of professional ethics and personal conduct.
Estes focuses her practice in employment law. She has represented employers in both state and federal court in litigation brought by individuals, as well as successfully defended cases brought by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Estes has represented school boards, educators, and administrators in a variety of legal matters, including employee and student rights, special education, disability accommodations, civil rights matters, tort liability, and individual teacher liability issues. She has served as a hearing officer in dismissal cases as well as representing various superintendents and boards in prosecuting tenured teacher dismissal hearings.
Among her many professional achievements, Estes is named to The Best Lawyers in America®, Employment Law – Management and is the Managing Editor of the University of Memphis Law review. She is a member of the Memphis and Shelby County Bar Association, the Tennessee Bar Association, the Federal Bar Association, and the Federalist Society.
