Executive Order Creates Temporary License Exam Waiver

By David Draper | January 10, 2017

In response to the recent wildfires that swept through Gatlinburg and surrounding areas in east Tennessee, Governor Haslam issued Executive Order No. 61.  The Order permits a temporary contractor’s license to be issued to provide for the protection of the health, safety and welfare of the public.  Qualified contractors may apply for an examination waiver for a temporary six (6) month contractor’s license. This provision is available to contractors wanting a license to assist victims or evacuees from the wildfires in Sevier County or severe weather in Southeast Tennessee.  To an examination waiver, the applicant must have sufficient experience and knowledge in the field of contracting for the license classification requested.  Applicants have to complete the application process in its entirety, with the exception of the examinations, to obtain an emergency temporary contractor’s license.  The exam waiver is available to temporary license applicants until January 30, 2017.
