Lewis Thomason is proud to announce James L. Weatherly, Jr., Special Counsel in the firms’ Nashville office, has been presented the David Rutherford Award by the Nashville Bar Foundation. This award exemplifies professionalism, charitable service, and collegiality in the legal community.

Weatherly has over 40 years of legal experience, beginning his career with a focus on criminal law, resulting in his past election as the public defender for Metro Nashville-Davidson County, Tennessee. While his criminal law practice continues, he has a strong concentration on family law.
Among his many professional accomplishments, Weatherly has served as President of the Nashville Bar Association, chaired the Tennessee Supreme Court Commission on Indigent Defense, and was a founding member of the Supreme Commission on Continuing Legal Education. He currently serves as Chancellor for the Episcopal Dioceses of Tennessee, is Martindale-Hubbell AV rated, recognized by Mid-South Super Lawyers, and named a Best Lawyers® “Lawyer of the Year.”
He is a Fellow of the Nashville and Tennessee Bar Foundations, and a member of the American, Nashville and Tennessee Bar Associations, and the Tennessee and National Associations of Criminal Defense Lawyers.
