The Tennessee Bar Association’s Communication and International Law sections recently presented Privacy Laws 2022 which explored privacy law through both an international and domestic lens. Justin Joy, shareholder in Lewis Thomason’s Memphis office, provided an overview of domestic privacy-related laws accompanied by an overview of health information privacy in the US, specifically post-Roe v. Wade privacy-related considerations following the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision in 2022. Justin leads Lewis Thomason’s cybersecurity practice group and is the firm’s privacy officer. He provides counsel to clients in a variety of industries in the area of information privacy and cybersecurity including incident investigation and breach response management, regulatory compliance, privacy and security policy review and drafting, and cyber risk management. Specifically in the area of healthcare, Mr. Joy counsels covered entities and business associates on a variety of matters pertaining to HIPAA Privacy Rule, Security Rule, and Breach Notification Rule compliance.
