Lewis Thomason Creates Criminal Defense Practice Group

We are pleased to report that Eric Butler, Chris Sullivan, and Jimmy Duckworth have recently created the LT Criminal Defense Practice Group.

This group is comprised of LT defense attorneys who possess vast experience in all aspects of criminal law, from government investigations to indictment and trial.  Representation of people and companies during federal and state agency investigations, prosecutor inquiries and federal grand jury proceedings comprises critical aspects in defending allegations of wrongdoing. Our number one goal is preventing charges from being brought, but should formal prosecution commence, our attorneys are known and recognized for their acumen and experience in both federal and state courts. Our team includes former federal and state prosecutors and experienced litigators and trial attorneys who will fight for a just result.

Eric ButlerEric Butler, a native of Franklin County, Tennessee, is Special Counsel in the firm’s Knoxville office focusing his legal practice in the areas of federal and state taxation, tax controversy matters, white-collar criminal defense, and estate planning/probate matters. Mr. Butler handles a large range of tax matters for clients across Tennessee as well as the south-eastern United States involving the Internal Revenue Service and state taxing authorities, to include examinations of returns, collection of delinquent tax debts, criminal tax matters, international tax compliance and enforcement, and litigation of tax issues in both state and federal courts.

Sullivan-0935Christopher Sullivan, Special Counsel, practices in the Memphis office of Lewis Thomason. His practice encompasses many aspect of civil litigation, including medical malpractice defense, healthcare liability and fraud, professional liability defense and personal injury. Mr. Sullivan also has an active criminal practice focused primarily in federal court.  Mr. Sullivan has practiced with Lewis Thomason for the last 8 years having previously served as an assistant district attorney general and assistant city attorney in Memphis and Shelby County.

James D. DuckworthJimmy Duckworth is an associate attorney in the firm’s Memphis office. His civil practice is focused in the areas of healthcare liability, personal injury, and general civil trial work. Mr. Duckworth is also a member of the firm’s construction law and workers’ compensation practice groups.

Mr. Duckworth has a particular interest in criminal defense and has played an active role in expanding the firm’s criminal law practice group. He has successfully defended clients in state and federal court. He handles a wide range of criminal matters ranging from state misdemeanor charges such as DUI, domestic assault, and drug possession, to federal white-collar crimes.
