Lewis Thomason Names New Shareholders

Sam Doak in the Knoxville office has been a trial attorney for over 30 years.  His practice primarily focuses on civil trial litigation, arbitration and mediation ranging from complex construction matters, complex product liability, marine product liability, commercial business disputes, employment litigation, transportation litigation, workers compensation and general insurance defense. Doak has served in several leadership positions in the Knoxville Bar Association over the years including President, President of the Barristers, and a member of the KBA Board of Governors for many years. He served as President of the Hamilton Burnette American Inn of Court and has been involved in the Leadership of every Habitat for Humanity construction build by the Knoxville Bar Association’s Habitat for Humanity Committee since 1997. Doak is named to The Best Lawyers in America® for Employment Law-Management, Litigation-Construction and Product Liability Litigation – Defendants. He is a Fellow of the Knoxville Bar Foundation and a member of the Knoxville Bar Association and Hamilton Burnette American Inns of Court.

William Podesta in the Memphis office focuses his practice in the areas of health care liability and general civil litigation. Podesta graduated magna cum laude from the University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law where he served as business editor of Volume 47 of the University of Memphis Law Review. He was the recipient of Cali Awards – Criminal Law; Appellate Advocacy; Advanced Constitutional Law; The Freedom of Speech; Legislation; Elder Law; Criminal Procedure II; Maritime Law; and Commercial Law. Prior to law school he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in finance and supply chain management, and he has several years of experience in the Intermodal Transportation Industry. He is a member of the Memphis Bar Association.

Ashton Smith is based in the Nashville office where he practices in construction and real property law. As a key member of Lewis Thomason’s Construction Law Practice Group, he expertly negotiates design and construction contracts representing architects, engineers, and contractors in litigation, construction claims, and payment disputes. Along with his construction law skills, Ashton has a wealth of experience in business transactions, health care, regulatory and insurance law. His diverse legal background includes serving as in-house counsel for a health care company, where he advised senior leadership on various matters including corporate governance and regulatory compliance. Ashton is a member of the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) Emerging Leaders, Nashville Civic Design Center (NCDC) Civic Advocates, Tennessee Association of Construction Counsel (TACC) and the Nashville Bar Association and Tennessee Bar Association.
