Local Hire? So long, farewell, auf Wiedersehen, good night . . .

2782317019_117d48b978_zOn March 10, less than two months after Mayor Megan Berry imposed requirements implementing Charter Amendment 3, a/k/a Nashville’s local hire law, Governor Haslam signed a bill voiding the amendment.  Accordingly, Metro Nashville believes the measure is dead, interpreting the bill to prohibit Metro from implementing Charter Amendment 3 and the rules and regulations imposed by Mayor Barry earlier this year.  Previously, Attorney General Herbert Slatery questioned whether the charter amendment violated state contractor licensing laws, by imposing more stringent requirements than those set forth by state law. We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates on any further action.  Although Metro will not require contractors to comply with the local-hire law requirements, Metro is moving forward with the optional workforce development initiative, “Nashville Construction Readiness Partnership,” that is being administered by the Nashville Career Advancement Center.
