Meet the Barrister – Mikel Towe

A periodic Q & A session with a Lewis Thomason (LT) lawyer

Lewis Thomason: When did you decide to become a lawyer?
Mikel Towe: When I was in my third year at UT studying for a BA in History. At the time, I thought I wanted to be a football coach and a history teacher, but decided to start looking into other careers. I ended up trying out law school. Not many things you can do with a History degree.

Lewis Thomason: What is your favorite (or most common) way to procrastinate on the internet?
Mikel Towe: I generally waste my time on Volquest looking at the latest recruiting and team news.

Lewis Thomason: What was your first job and what did you learn from that experience?
Mikel Towe: My first job was a bag boy at Food City. Taught me that I did not want to bag groceries and listen to customer complaints the rest of my life.

Lewis Thomason: What is your favorite thing to do in Knoxville?
Mikel Towe: There is nothing better than waking up on a Saturday morning game day in Knoxville. Going down to campus, tailgating with friends prior to the game, and watching the Vols play.

Lewis Thomason: What is the one thing you couldn’t live without?
Mikel Towe: Lunch.

Lewis Thomason: What is something that is popular now that annoys you?
Mikel Towe: The use of the “Reply All” button.

Lewis Thomason: What’s the first thing you do after work?
Mikel Towe: Usually either go for a run, start dinner, or grab beers with some of my buddies.

Lewis Thomason: What is the one thing you will never do again?
Mikel Towe: The vending machine challenge…

Lewis Thomason: What famous person do you admire and why?
Mikel Towe: Derek Jeter. I hate the Yankees, but Jeter was a great teammate. He never embarrassed his team. He was never caught up in any scandals. Just seems like he always did it the right way.

Lewis Thomason: What do you want your legacy to be?
Mikel Towe: After I am gone, I would love for people to say that I was a great husband, (if I am blessed enough to have kids) a great father, and that I made Knoxville better in some way.
