Nicholas VescovoNic Vescovo, an LT Memphis associate, is on the cutting edge of intellectual property law issues. Nic conducted a CLE for the Memphis Bar Association on the intriguing topic “Please Do Not Touch the Art Work.”

In his presentation, Nic covered the Visual Arts Rights Act (‘VARA”), discussing artists’ rights protection provided under the federal statute, how those rights can be exercised and enforced, and licensing issues related to art work that attorneys should consider when representing visual artists.

Nic’s lecture also covered the recent 5Pointz Graffiti Art Case that resulted in a $6.75 million damages award under VARA after a developer destroyed the graffiti art murals on the buildings to make way for luxury condos.

Nic’s presentation concluded with a discussion of how the 5Pointz case could impact the public art debate now ongoing in the City of Memphis.

The CLE program was conducted at the Art Village on South Main Street in downtown Memphis.
