Robyn Askew Honored by a Step Ahead Foundation

This has been a big month for Robyn Askew of LT Knoxville. A couple of weeks ago, Robyn was selected for Leadership Tennessee,  a highly-selective group of emerging leaders from across the state who will hold seminars and meetings during the coming year to discuss bipartisan solutions to the problems faced in the Volunteer State.

Last Thursday night, Robyn received an honor for the very type of leadership that led to her selection for Leadership Tennessee. Robyn was honored by A Step Ahead Foundation of Knoxville for her outstanding work on behalf of the Foundation.

A Step Ahead Foundation provides long-term reversible birth control, family and life planning, as well as hundreds of thousands of dollars in scholarships to young women across the state of Tennessee. A Step Ahead Foundation was founded by Claudia Swafford Haltom, wife of Bill Haltom, a lawyer in our LT Memphis office, in 2010 because of a need she found for young women in her 17 years of service as a Magistrate in the Shelby County Juvenile Court.  A few years ago, Claudia sought the assistance of Robyn in bringing the work of A Step Ahead Foundation to Knox County and East Tennessee.

Thanks to the work of Robyn, Claudia, and A Step Ahead-recruited physicians and volunteers across Tennessee, the teenage birth rate, and correspondingly the abortion rate, in Tennessee has dropped dramatically over the last several years. Moreover, literally thousands of young women across the Volunteer State have been given the opportunity to get a true step ahead in planning their lives.

We congratulate Robyn on her well-deserved honor.
